Duties and Responsibilities

Senior Group Market Risk Officer

Key responsibilities :

  • Manage the affairs of the unit in the absence of the Group Market Risk Manager
  • Review, analyze and monitor all Credit Linked Notes (CLN) and other structured products originated by the Currency and African Asset Distribution (CAAD) Desk.
  • Supervise the production of accurate and timely market risk reports for GALCO, Group Risk Review, Board Risk Committee Meetings and Annual Report.
  • Review affiliates’ liquidity and funding plans, liquidity limits and contingency funding plans and make approval/rejection recommendations to Group Market Risk Manager
  • Supervise the production and circulation of daily Group FX and Fixed income positions and risk metrics across the group
  • Develop a framework to monitor liquidity and counterparty risk across the group on a weekly basis and lead the implementation of Basel III liquidity metrics
  • Periodic participation in and review of Affiliate ALCO; offering recommendations to improve market, liquidity and counterparty risk management
  • Supervise the development and enhancement of quantitative approaches and risk models to assess risk exposure at the position and portfolio level; develop a global VaR model that would account for diversification effects across Fixed Income and Foreign exchange trading portfolios, working with the Group Risk Analytics team
  • Lead the development and implementation of sensitivity and value at risk based limits across the group
  • Responsible for the inputs to the risk models including market data and integrity of the transaction population used to calculate daily Value at Risk (VaR) and Market Risk (Regulatory and Economic) capital.
  • Establish and maintain appropriate risk limit framework; ensuring that market risks are made transparent to senior management; performing stress testing and qualitative risk assessments
  • Responsible for the management of the daily limit monitoring process. Identify, investigate breaches and issue breach notices. Also retain audit trail of responses.
  • Establish quarterly stress testing procedures for trading and banking book portfolios across the group
  • Familiar with documentation used for trading products including ISDA, CSA, GMRA etc and ability to set credit terms as required
  • Provide periodic training for Cluster Market Risk Managers and Country Risk Manager on evolving market risk issues

Job Qualifications & Skills / Selection Criteria

  • At least 5 years experience as a market risk professional preferably in a dynamic international commercial bank, investment bank or financial consulting firm.
  • Deep understanding of financial markets and experience in analyzing fixed income and financial derivatives including Interest Rate and Foreign Exchange Forwards, Swaps, Options, Credit Default Swaps and Credit Linked Notes.
  • Familiar with International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS), especially as they relate to classification of investment securities.
  • Exceptional analytical skills.
  • Strong MS Excel skills and ability to learn new systems quickly.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Professional Certification in Market risk or related area (eg FRM, CFA, PRM)
