About the employer / working context

The  Africa  Rice  Center (AfricaRice)  is seeking  a  highly  qualified  Knowledge  Management 
Assistant to be based at AfricaRice, Cotonou.  
About AfricaRice 
AfricaRice is one of the 15 international agricultural research Centers that are members of the 
CGIAR  Consortium.  It  is  also  an  autonomous  intergovernmental  association  of  African member countries. 

 

Duties and Responsibilities

Under the Supervision of the Head of Knowledge Management and Capacity Strengthening, the  Knowledge  Management  Assistant  will  assist  in  the  content  development  and 
management of rice knowledge products intended for the rice e‐hubs. 

The rice e‐hub is a virtual platform that serves as a portal for information about rice hubs in the AfricaRice member states. The rice sector development hubs are geographic locations 
within the AfricaRice member countries strategically selected by national partners based on their potential to increase rice productivity within the country as stated in AfricaRice’s 2011‐
2020 Strategic Plan. The rice e‐hub virtual platform is designed and being managed through co‐learning and co‐creation process. Its design and content management are decentralized to ensure sustainability, relevance  and  ownership  of scientists  and  partners  especially  from 
national research and development organizations from AfricaRice member states. The rice e‐hub acts as a knowledge exchange facilitation tool between science, development and value chain actors.  
The rice e‐hub virtual platform hosts three major knowledge products: 

  • Narratives  describing  activities  or  technologies  being  tested  at  the  rice  sector development hubs; 
  • Videos of rice technologies selected as relevant for the rice hubs or videos developed or adapted to local conditions intended for farmer‐to‐farmer dissemination; 
  • Audio products derived from existing scripts to fit the rice rural radio programs; 

The  Knowledge  Management  Assistant  will  work  closely  with  AfricaRice  scientists  and national partners engaged in the rice hubs to: 

  • Facilitate the development of content (narratives, video and audio) for the rice e‐hubs from  AfricaRice  member states  at  least  10  countries  per  year  are  assisted. This includes the regular updates of country rice e‐hubs platform; 
  • Facilitate  learning  process  in  gathering  and  uploading  content  from  AfricaRice scientists and national partners; 
  • Facilitate use of relevant tools for knowledge sharing. 

Job Qualifications & Skills / Selection Criteria

Qualifications/Selection Criteria

Education:

MSc in communications or agriculture sciences specializing in information sharing and dissemination.

Work Experience:

Proven experience (at least 3‐5 years) in content management of similar virtual platforms for Africa; Experience in working in a multi‐cultural environment. 
Key Competencies Required: knowledge of agricultural research and development in Africa, and proven skills in use of web2/3 tools. Proven ability to produce knowledge products in English and French will be an advantage. 

Language 
The candidate should communicate fluently (orally and in writing) in English or French with a good working knowledge of the other language.
